From the first time you visit the ScanDigital website, you`ll understand why they're our top pick. ScanDigital guides you through every stage of the photo scanning process, from ordering and pricing to packaging to receiving your digital photos and any additional work. You feel assured and looked after.
While this isn't the cheapest photo scanning service, you get what you pay for here. You're provided with a prepared box for sending your original pictures and given instructions on how to package them. You can choose from two recovery levels, Premium and Professional, which provide excellent results. However, if you are unhappy with the scan you receive, ScanDigital will offer you a second scan/repair of your image free of charge. This is excellent customer service, and you can send your digital photos or videos back to a USB stick or hard drive instead of an old DVD.
The downside is that ScanDigital takes a little longer to complete the process than other vendors, and there is no option to host or view images from different vendors online. The second point is not a significant drawback, as we always recommend choosing your provider for posting photos on the Internet. Overall, we were very impressed with ScanDigital.

EverPresent is one of the largest scanning services in the US, and probably one of the best services you`ll get when you're getting your old photos digitized. The quality of the scans here are some of the highest we've seen, and while you do have to pay slightly more than average (certainly not much more) what you get back is well worth the money. Slides and photos are $0.59 per scan, although delicate photos run to $1.99 per scan. Albums can be scanned per page too, starting at $2.99 per page.
EverPresent offers services to scan photos, slides, negatives, old film, and some of the more obscure film formats too. This will improve the quality of your scan and return it to you with courier delivery. Digital files can be downloaded to DVD, USB, or hosted for free on a personal website for 90 days. It's a great service with all the features you need. Shipping is pretty quick too, and if you live in 3 states you can send your photos to the physical store or use a pick-up service.
We also like the extra features EverPresent has to offer. We suggest designing and creating photo albums based on your scans and organizing your existing digital photos. Again, the cost may increase, but I believe it's better to spend the money and get the job done than not getting great results from a cheaper, less comprehensive service. Our only real problem is the lack of clarity about the digitization process and when to complete it, and we haven't found customer service as helpful as other vendors. But the end result is great.

If you're looking for deals on bulk orders of photos or slides, ScanCafe is for you. Not only do we offer a variety of “value kits” to help you digitize large numbers of images, slides, and videos, but you can also choose from various services to suit your needs. In our tests, ScanCafe performed well in terms of overall cost, speed of service, and actual images returned. The average turnaround time is about 12 days, including UPS shipping and returns are in good quality.
The ScanCafe excels at removing scratches and smudges, especially from older images, and organizing and smoothing your photos to give them a more modern look. It isn't the best for color correction and sharpening, but if you're looking for cheap cleaning up of your images, it's great. ScanCafe also does VHS, 35mm film, and other media.
Overall, we love the ScanCafe website too, as it's easy to use, although the pricing options aren't quite as straightforward as they are on some competitor sites.

If you want full control over how old photos are scanned, GoPhoto is your best bet. You can choose the exact number of images or videos you want to process, as well as view the results online and pay only for the images you want to keep. We love it in GoPhoto.
After you scan your photos, you can access an online album containing images sorted by the GoPhoto team. You can then go through each photo to see the quality and theme of the photos and decide which ones you want to keep and what you don't want to pay for. The quality of the images produced with GoPhoto is good and the processing time is above average.
Of course you have to pay more and the website is very outdated and a bit difficult to navigate, but overall we like the services offered here. The fact that we do our best to organize and sort your original photos and return them to the same order, album, and group that you mailed your images to is also a bit of a bonus.

If you want to go fully digital, Digital Memories is a good choice. The company scans your photos, slides, VHS tapes and more and posts them online for up to six months, allowing you to access and download images from any device connected to the Internet. However, the caveat here is that you are paying for this online repository along with the actual cost of the scan. Therefore, this option is the more expensive option. We recommend that you re-import your images and explore your own cloud storage options such as Google Drive, OneDrive, or iCloud.
Digital Memories offers a wide range of scanning services for all types of media, as well as pricing options for bundles, scan-to-order and more. In fact, we found the pricing and the rather dated website a little confusing, so you should shop around before committing to scans from Digital Memories.
The quality of the work here is good, and the turnaround is about average for photo scanning services. We suggest trying out this online format for a few weeks, before moving your images to a different cloud location.

Anyone who wants to scan images should check out ScanMyPhotos. We offer a wide range of services from general print photography to 8mm film and processing faster than most other providers. Of course, there are delays for everyone in the current climate, but photos are usually taken within 1012 days. If you want to save the digital copy to a DVD or USB stick and upload it to the cloud, you can pay an extra fee.
The ScanMyPhotos isn't necessarily great in terms of performance (which is, of course, a good thing), and the pricing structure and website navigation can be much better. We love that there are regular deals and discounts here, so you can usually save money if someone wants to scan your photos quickly and cheaply. It's perfect for large images as it saves money the more you spend.
If you need to restore older footage, many formats are available for scanning, including VHS and 8mm film. Overall, it's recommended for speed, but there are better optimization services.
