The University of Ljubljana is the oldest and largest higher education and scientific research institution in Slovenia. University with its rich tradition was founded in 1919. It has approximately 40,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students and employs approximately 6,000 higher education teachers, researchers, assistants, and administrative staff in 23 faculties and three arts academies. The University of Maribor was established in 1975. With its 17 faculties, the university library Maribor, and the student dormitories, it is the second-largest and second-oldest university in Slovenia with a long tradition. During these years, it became a successful scientific institution, the primary mission and guiding principle of which is the dissemination and enrichment of knowledge. The University of Primorska is also one of the best universities in Slovenia. Founded in 2003, the university is one of the latest additions to the country’s higher education system. IEDC-Bled School of Management, located in Bled, Slovenia, is a business school. It was founded in 1986 upon an initiative of the Slovenian business community as the International Executive Development Center. IEDC is dedicated to executive education only, operates independently from any university, and is run by a group of faculty under the President and Dean Professor Danica Purg, who has served as the dean since its inception. In June 2008, during a prominent celebration attended by the President of the European Commission and numerous ministers and dignitaries from Slovenia and around the world, the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI) was inaugurated in Slovenia. The European Faculty of Law is an independent and private higher education institution. It was the first law Faculty in Slovenia that developed its study programs in correspondence with the European Bologna model of studies. The Faculty was founded by the Institute for Human Rights, Advice, and Education. In July 2005, the Council for Higher Education of the Republic of Slovenia granted accreditation to the European Faculty of Law in July 2005.
