  1. Nesebar, located in Burgas Province, is an ancient city and one of the major seaside resorts on Bulgaria's Black Sea Coast. It serves as the administrative center for the municipality of Nesebar. Nesebar, known as the "Pearl of the Black Sea," is a rich city-museum defined by over three millennia of ever-changing history. The small city is divided into two sections by a narrow man-made isthmus, with the older part of the settlement on the peninsula (previously an island) and the more modern section (hotels, later development) on the mainland side. The older section has been occupied by a number of different civilisations over the course of its existence.

It is one of the most important tourist destinations and seaports on the Black Sea, in a popular area with several large resorts, the largest of which, Sunny Beach, is located immediately to the north of Nesebar. Despite its small size, the peninsula is home to forty churches. They date from the periods when Nessebar was ruled by the Byzantines, the Ottomans, and, finally, the Bulgarians. Nesebar has found itself on several occasions on the border of a threatened empire, and as such it has a rich history. In 1983, UNESCO added Nesebar to its list of World Heritage Sites due to the city's abundance of historic buildings.

  2. Cape Kaliakra is one of the most beautiful coastal towns in Bulgaria. It is a popular stop for tourists looking for pretty sights and interesting historic places to visit north of Varna. It is located near the Romanian border. The fortress was used successively by Tracians, Romans, Byzantines, and Bulgarians. Legend has it that the fortress guarded the treasuries of Lyzimah, Alexander the Great's successor. There are many relics of those ancient settlements that can be seen in a small museum today. One can also read there a legend telling the story of several Bulgarian girls who chose to jump from the high cape into the sea but not to be captured and converted to Islam by the Turks.

The Kaliakra cape was designated a protected area in 1941. It is one of the few places where rare sea and bird life can be found. The nearby Durankulak Lake is famous for housing over 250 rare species, including fish, reptiles, amphibians, marsh birds, and plants, many of which are listed in Bulgaria's Red Book. The lake has been designated as a protected area. However, it is not only nature that draws experts and tourists to this location. An archaeological park called "Bulgarian Troy" by scientists is located on the Big island, in the lake. At Cape Kaliakra, you will find endless ways to fill your days from Golf on three of the finest courses in Europe, bathing in several private beaches to indulging in a pampering massage.

  3. Sinemorets is a village on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast in the far southeast, close to the Turkish border. The village is located directly on the sea, next to the beautiful Veleka River. Ahtopol, a seaside resort, is 6 kilometers north of Sinemorets, and Rezovo is 11 kilometers south. Sinemorets is a popular vacation spot due to its pristine natural beauty and excellent beaches. It is close to the Strandzha Nature Reserve, a cool retreat on hot summer days with numerous trails leading to natural and historical sites.

The village has two beaches: Bytamyata Beach and the beach at the Veleka River's mouth. Silistar, one of Bulgaria's most beautiful beaches, is also nearby. Water sports enthusiasts can rent a "banana boat" (a large, banana-shaped float pulled by a speed boat) and jet skis. For those who prefer a more natural excursion, horses and ponies can be rented, as well as boat trips up the Veleka. There are a number of trails in the Strandzha reserve that lead to interesting places for hikers and bicyclists.

The villages in the Strandzha near Sinemorets have preserved centuries-old traditions that they are proud to share with visitors. The Nestinarka - a ritual dance performed on live coals that takes place on May 21, on the annual celebration in honor of Saints Constantine and Elena - is one such worldwide tradition. During the summer, Nestinarka fire dances are also organized for tourists. The Strandzha villages of Gramatikovo, Kosti, Bulgari, and Mladezhko have become popular tourist destinations. The Veleka River is well-stocked and draws a large number of anglers. Because fish from the Black Sea migrate up the river in search of food, it is possible to catch both freshwater and saltwater fish at the river's mouth.

  4. Chernomorets is a peaceful resort about 10 kilometers north of Sozopol. The resort is built on top of a rocky outcropping that protrudes into the water, forming three distinct bays. Chernomorets is also a great alternative to Sozopol for accommodation during the busiest summer months for a smaller price, perfect if you have your own transportation and can easily move around. It's much less crowded, but it still has plenty of good restaurants and calm beaches. The majority of the accommodations are guest houses, which are ideal for families and small groups.

Myastoto is one of the most popular restaurants in Chernomorets. Every summer, a restaurant appears along the coast of Vromos Bay. Ask locals for directions as the location may have changed since last year, and definitely give them a call to book a table. Simple Bulgarian salads and dishes prepared with high-quality vegetables and fish are available. Even if you're staying in one of the neighboring resorts, it's definitely worth a shot.

  5. Balchik is one of the most beautiful coastal towns in Bulgaria. Balchik is a Black Sea coastal town and seaside resort in northeastern Bulgaria's Southern Dobruja region. It is located in Dobrich Province, 35 kilometers southeast of Dobrich and 42 kilometers northeast of Varna. It sprawls scenically along hilly terraces descending from the Dobruja plateau to the sea and is known colloquially as "The White City" due to its white hills. The average temperature in July is 22 degrees Celsius, and the seawater temperature reaches 24 degrees Celsius during the summer. Krunes, a Greek settler, founded the town 26 centuries ago. Dionisiopolis was named after the Greek God of wine and joy, Dionysus, in the sixth century BC.

In addition to enjoying a summer vacation by the sea, visitors to Bulgaria's seaside city Balchik can visit the Botanical Gardens, which contain over 600 species of flora. The terraced Botanical Gardens also include Sveta Bogoroditsa's small chapel, a greenhouse with huge, impressive cacti, a waterfall, and an old wooden mill. Visiting Queen Marie's Summer Palace, located within the labyrinth-like gardens, is one of the top things to do in Balchik. You can also sample Bulgarian sweets, grapes, and various fruit wines at the Queen's Winery House, which is also located within the Botanical Gardens.

  6. Pomorie is a modern city about 18 kilometers south of Nessebar. Pomorie used to have buildings similar to Nessebar. Only a small portion of them can still be seen today, as the majority were destroyed in a massive fire in 1906. Not to worry, Pomorie has something else that makes it a must-see when visiting Bulgaria's seaside! It is well-known for its rare bird sightings and mud treatments. Pomorie Lake, located not far from the city, has a 70% salt concentration (4 times higher than that of the Black Sea). This lake's mud has been used for bathing since the time of the Romans. Its properties appear to help with a variety of joint pains.

As previously stated, Pomorie is a popular destination for birdwatchers, with approximately 200 bird species congregating around the lake. There are also endangered species such as the pygmy cormorant and the Dalmatian pelican. The latter has curly feathers and is the largest of the pelican species. Pomorie has a variety of attractions, entertainment venues, historical sites, museums, and monuments. There is something for everyone - kids clubs, sports attractions, beach sports, and so on. The most popular cultural attractions are "The Historical Museum," "The Museum of Salt," the architectural reserve "Old Pomorie Houses," "St George" monastery and other churches, the Ancient tomb, and so on. The best excursions and day trips from Pomorie are listed here.

  7. Durankulak is a village in the Dobrich Province of northeastern Bulgaria, part of the Shabla Municipality. Durankulak, located in the historical region of Southern Dobruja, is Bulgaria's northernmost inhabited place and the northernmost village on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast, though the village itself is slightly inland. The only places to the north along the coast are the formerly exclusively Czechoslovak camping site Kosmos and the Kartalburun and Sivriburun headlands, which are located north of the town of Shabla.

The coastal Lake Durankulak is to the southeast, and the Durankulak Swamp, also known as Eagles' Swamp, is to the northeast, towards the Black Sea—the two are linked by an artificial but overgrown marshy canal. The Anna Maria beach, which extends up to Sivriburun and the border, is also located to the northeast of the village. Another beach south of the village extends all the way to Krapets. It is one of the few wild beaches that has been preserved to this day, and while there have been some suggestions to "civilize" the area, this has not yet occurred. Because it is also Bulgaria's easternmost point, the sun rises in Durankulak about 18 minutes earlier than in Sofia. So you can sit there and watch the sun rays appear on the horizon, smugly believing that you are the first person in the entire country to notice it!

  8. Tyulenovo is a hidden gem along the North Coast of Bulgaria. It is famous for its unique rock formations, caves and crystal clear waters. You may be disappointed that there is no sandy beach here, but its beauty makes up for it a lot. Because tourism is not as popular in the northern parts of Bulgaria's Black Sea Coast, the town has largely remained untouched. It's ideal for fishing as well as extreme sports like rock climbing and scuba diving. Locals can rent you a boat to take you deeper into the waters for fishing or a trip to the caves.

The coast is ideal for thrill seekers who want to sleep in a tent directly on the rocks. Climbers flock to the area because the rocks are particularly beautiful. If you want to visit Tyulenovo to enjoy the beauty of the coast without going on a wild adventure, there are several hotels and guest houses in the village that can accommodate you. Be sure to have dinner at Restaurant Delfina and enjoy a picturesque view over the famous arch formation along the coast. P.S. Bring some repellent – the mosquitoes here are ruthless!

    Varna

Varna is the largest city in Bulgaria on the Black Sea coast. It is also the third-largest city in Bulgaria, after Sofia and Plovdiv, in terms of population. As a result, this Bulgaria beach town is also known as the Sea Capital or Summer Capital of Bulgaria. Varna is an important tourist and educational center, having been named European Youth Capital in 2017. Aside from its vibrant cultural life, Varna offers visitors an intriguing collection of museums, including the 2000 sqm Archeological Museum, the Naval Museum, the History Museum, the Renaissance Museum, the Ethnographic Museum, and the Natural History Museum. While the Doll Museum and the Medical History Museum are more interesting for a specific niche, you should also consider visiting them.

Don't forget to visit the Varna Necropolis, which has the world's largest gold thesaurus! Pobiti Kamani, also known as The Stone Desert, is located not far from Varna. Bulgaria's only desert, which covers an area of 13 square kilometers, is made up of sand dunes and groups of natural rock formations that are hard on the outside but hollow and filled with sand on the inside. These rocks can grow to heights of up to 7 meters and have diameters of up to 3 meters. Pobiti Kamani, a one-of-a-kind phenomenon in Bulgaria, should be on your itinerary if you visit the country's seaside!

    Burgas

Burgas is the fourth largest city of Bulgaria, after Varna. Surrounded by the coastal Burgas lakes and located at the westernmost point of the Black Sea, the Gulf of Burgas, Burgas has Bulgaria's largest and most important port. Today, the city is a key economic, cultural and tourist center of southeastern Bulgaria, with Burgas airport serving the resorts of the southern Bulgarian coast. The area is protected for its biodiversity, with rare and endangered species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish. The high number of wide beaches makes Burgas a favorite touristic destination in summer. After getting the perfect tan, you can visit the open-air museums of Develtum (ancient Thracian city) and Beglik-Tash (prehistoric rock sanctuary).

Burgas also draws visitors to the Bulgarian coast with its annual exhibitions and international festivals. The Sand Fest, a festival of sand sculptures, is one of the less-common ones. This festival brings together artists from Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia to create over 200 compositions, including sculptures taller than 8 meters. The event is held every year in Park Ezero and will be in its 12th year in 2019.

  11. Primorsko is about 20 kilometers south of Sozopol. The small city was built on a rocky peninsula between two bays. Primorsko is also the meeting point of the Strandzha mountain range and the sea. The resort has the second-longest beach on our coastline, and there is plenty of natural beauty to be found. The shallow bay of Perla beach with its gold sand, the North and South beaches, and the Devil's river mouth were all options. If you are willing to travel a few kilometers north, you can visit the Ropotamo river mouth and its beach, the untouched beach Arkutino, and the nature reserve Dyuni (Dunes) with its Driver's beach and Alepu swamp.

You can also visit the ancient Thracian sanctuary Beglik tash, as well as some stunning panoramic photo spots for those Instagram profiles in need of a new photo. One of Primorsko's other advantages is that it is not as commercialized as the resorts to the north. Nonetheless, the town offers a diverse range of lodging options, ranging from small guest apartments to large hotels.
