  1. Located 30 km north of Thakhek town, Khammouane province, Khoun Kong Leng lake has crystal blue water and is considered the most beautiful lake in Laos. The lake water comes from the underground river that has been filtered through the limestone layers located around the mountains, so it has such clarity.

  2. Blue Lagoon 3 is an island on a lake along Nam Ngum, about a distance from the capital Vientiane (Laos) on Route 13 towards Luang Prabang. As the name suggests, Blue Lagoon 3 has a clear blue color like jade, the lake water is so clear that you can see fish swimming around on the bottom.


    Blue Lagoon 3 is typical of the tropical natural region, around the lagoon are limestone cliffs that are sometimes sparse, but always green.   3. Tha Falang is one of the top attractions in the Khammouane Province, located 16km northeast of Thakhek along route 12 to Mahaxay. On the left, there is a 2-kilometer route that can be accessed by a mountain bike or 4-wheel drive (but not during the rainy season).


    When the water level is high, the road transforms into a stream, making it only accessible by boat. It's not really a lake next to that; it's just a scenic section of the river where you may go swimming (which is bloody cold if it rains). This is a really good place to relax. The lake water is very beautiful, it is so clear that you can see a lot of fish under the clear water. Besides, the riverside restaurant offers a variety of food and drinks.   4. Bungva Lake is a sizable freshwater lake in Laos that is adjacent to Savannakhet. Locals frequently picnic there and hang out there on the weekends and on holidays. When visiting Savannakhet, it is one of the sights worth seeing for travelers who want to take a leisurely stroll, see a sunset or sunrise, or go boating.


    There are numerous eateries and shops along the well-maintained lake. This is a great place to visit and relax with a beer, a series of floating restaurants sit on a shallow lake. Great on weekends with friends or in the afternoon for a quiet beer. After passing by a monument and a few small villages, you will reach the lake’s edge and be met by a beautiful view out across the water, with buffaloes grazing and a solitary canoe gliding peacefully along. All around the lake farmers toiled in rolling green fields. You will pass stilted restaurants in the water as you cycle around the lake. It would have been a perfect setting for lunch with a cold beer.


    The lake is used for fishing, drinking water, irrigation, and other uses. Reeds can grow in the area on the other side of the dam and are harvested during the wet season to be woven into reed mats. Additionally, Bungva lake is an excellent location for gatherings like the Boat Racing Festival and the Rocket Festival. This is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in Laos.

  5. The gorgeous Cool Pool near the village of Ban Napavan was one of the most beautiful lakes in Laos. On the road to Cool Pool, Ban Napavan is to the north of Route 8. The village's temple offers magnificent views of the mountains. When you arrive, the locals will share with you tales of their forefathers and the myth surrounding the Nong Hia cave in Khamkeut.


    To reach the magnificent Cool Pool, a unique setting made possible by the geology of the limestone karsts, follow signs for 2 km. Swim in the cool, clean water, and purchase refreshments and snacks there. Narrow sunshine rays that manage to escape the shade of adjacent trees glitter in the turquoise ripples nestled beneath the limestone karst hillsides.


    Despite the mouthwatering descriptions, the area beneath the limestone mountains is quite stunning, serene, and tranquil. You should use this to escape the heat if you're on the Thakhek Loop. Amazing beauty may be found on the dusty road leading up to the Cool Pool and Ban Napavan lake. With foggy mountains in the distance, there are vast, wide pastures.
