2.0 is a 2018 Tamil-language science fiction action film directed by S. Shankar, who also co-wrote the script with B. Jeyamohan and Madhan Karky. Subaskaran. 2.0 is a standalone sequel to Enthiran (2010), starring Rajinikanth in the roles of Vaseegaran and Chitti the Robot, plus Akshay Kumar as Pakshi Rajan and Amy Jackson as Nila. The plot revolves around the fight between Chitti, a disassembled humanoid robot, and Pakshi Rajan, a former naturalist seeking vengeance on cell phone users in order to avoid the declining avian population.
2.0 is one of the most expensive Indian movies to date, with an estimated budget of $75 million. The initial schedule was shot at EVP World. The majority of the scenes were shot in India, specifically at Chennai's Madras Boat Club and Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The filming was completed in August of 2017. Nirav Shah, the film's cinematographer, shot the film in 3D for the first time in Indian cinema. The film was mostly shot in Tamil, with Akshay Kumar's dialogues in Hindi.
On November 29, 2018, 2.0 was released worldwide in both 3D and traditional formats, as well as dubbed versions in Hindi and Telugu. When it was first released, it earned largely positive reviews. Critics applauded the film's visual effects, performances by Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar, and social message in particular. However, the film's screenplay garnered criticism. On its first day, it made $15 million, the second-highest ever for an Indian film.
