Kabir Khan wrote and directed the 2021 Indian Hindi-language sports drama film 83, which was produced by Deepika Padukone, Kabir Khan, Vishnu Vardhan Induri, Sajid Nadiadwala, and Reliance Entertainment. The film's story and dialogues were co-written by Khan, Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, Vasan Bala, and Sumit Arora, and are based on the India national cricket team captained by Kapil Dev. Rob Miller and the ReelSports team directed the film's sports action. It stars Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev and Padukone as Romi Dev, Dev's wife.
After an intensive casting and pre-production procedure, the film began principal photography on 5 June 2019 and was primarily shot in and around England over three months, with a brief schedule in India, before wrapping on 7 October.
Originally scheduled for release in April 2020, the film 83 was postponed entirely until 2021. Apart from the original version, it premiered at the Red Sea International Film Festival on 15 December and was released worldwide on 24 December 2021 in conventional 2D and 3D formats, distributed by Reliance Entertainment and PVR Pictures in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam languages. The film garnered positive reviews from reviewers and audiences alike, with praise for the cast's performances, writing, direction, and technical features.
