Ashfall
Ashfall, also known as Mount Paektu, is a South Korean disaster film directed by Lee Hae-jun and Kim Byung-seo that was released in 2019. Ashfall is not only a big-budget film, but it also has a big cast, including Lee Byung Hun, Bae Suzy, Ha Jung Woo, Ma Dong Seok, and others. Despite causing controversy with its plot, the film was a commercial success. Experts predict that the next volcano eruption on Baekdu Mountain will be disastrous for the residents. In the face of the disaster, the government dispatches an elite army on a mission to steal North Korea's nuclear warheads. It is also the subject of the film.
The film was released in South Korea in December 2019. After five months of filming, production on Ashfall concluded on July 21. The film has a 70% approval rating based on 10 reviews on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, with an average rating of 5.8/10. Lee Byung-hun plays Lee Joon-pyeong in this film. Lee Byung-hun was named Best Actor at the 56th Grand Bell Awards.
