The Man Standing Next
Woo Min-ho directs The Man Standing Next, a 2020 South Korean political drama film. Based on the same-titled original novel, the film stars Lee Byung-hun, Lee Sung-min, Kwak Do-won, and Lee Hee-joon as high-ranking officials of the Korean government and the Korean Central Intelligence Agency (KCIA) during Park Chung-presidency hee's 40 days before his assassination in 1979. The film premiered on 22 January 2020 in South Korea, where it topped the box office until 4 February 2020. It was chosen as South Korea's entry for Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards, but it did not receive a nomination.
Lee Byung Hun's acting abilities have never let him down since he first entered the entertainment industry. The actor's brilliant performance in The Man Standing Next once again wowed viewers. Lee Byung Hun plays Kim Kyu Pyung, the director of the Central Intelligence Agency, in this film. With his dignified appearance, he always gives the impression that he is loyal to President Park, but Kim Kyu Pyung turns out to be the mastermind behind the President's assassination. Lee Byung-hun was named Best Actor at the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards.
