Athirappilly Waterfalls
Athirappilly Falls is located on the Chalakudy River in Athirappilly Panchayat, Chalakudy Taluk, Thrissur District, Kerala, India. It originates from the upper regions of the Western Ghats at the entrance to the Sholayar mountains. It is Kerala's largest waterfall, at 80 feet tall. It's only a short drive from Athirappilly to the Vazhachal falls, which are surrounded by dense green forests and home to numerous endangered and rare flora and fauna. Another waterfall adjacent to the road on the route from Athirappilly to Vazhachal Falls is known locally as "Charpa Falls". Athirappilly Falls is Kerala's largest waterfall and is known as "The Niagara of South India".
Teak, bamboo, and eucalyptus plantations can be found in the area. According to environmentalists, Athirappilly is a one-of-a-kind riparian ecosystem in Kerala. According to V.S. Vijayan, Chairman of the Kerala State Biodiversity Board and former Director of the Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON), Coimbatore, the Vazhachal forest division is the second most biodiverse area in the state.
