Atlanta Pride
The Atlanta Pride Committee is the oldest LGBTQ non-profit organization in Georgia and provides support and resources to the city of Atlanta and the Southeastern United States' communities that identify as gender and sexually diverse. In addition to 60 additional yearly educational, social, and historical programs, as well as community reinvestment projects, their operations include the annual Atlanta Pride Festival and Parade in October.
The inaugural march for Atlanta Pride took place in 1971, making it the largest Pride celebration in the Southeast and one of the oldest nationwide. Just northeast of the downtown area, Piedmont Park, is the focal point of the enormous public celebration (the attendance exceeds 200,000). Visit Sister Louisa's Church of the Living Room and Ping-Pong Emporium in the Old Fourth Ward for some full-on Southern gospel kitsch and organist-assisted karaoke.
Through cultural, social, political, and educational initiatives, the Atlanta Pride Committee seeks to promote harmony, visibility, and wellness among people who identify in a wide range of gender and sexual ways.
