Houston Gay Pride Parade
The centerpiece of a gay pride festival conducted yearly since 1979 is the Houston Gay Pride Parade, also known as the Houston Pride Parade. The festival honors lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people as well as their allies and is held in June. The Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street in New York City's Greenwich Village district was the target of a police raid in 1969, which is recognized as the catalyst for the current homosexual rights movement.
On the fourth Saturday in June, there are celebrations all day long. The parade, which has been held in the evening following sunset since 1997, is the event's centerpiece. Annise Parker, a member of the Houston City Council at the time, helped make the necessary changes to the city's parade regulations so that a procession could take place at night. The various units can be artistically illuminated because the event will take place after dark.
