Berlin by Jason Lutes
Berlin is perhaps most renowned for the epic breadth of both its storyline and its publishing, in addition to its absolutely outstanding storytelling and emotional artwork. Jason Lutes released the book in serial fashion over the course of 20 years, depicting the political and social landscapes of the German capital city during the turbulent era of 1928 to 1933, with the complete 580-page collection eventually seeing print in 2018.
For a book that gained such widespread and unequivocal acclaim, direct market comic outlets and traditional booksellers seldom acquire and carry it. Its high price tag may deter casual readers from purchasing it, but for anyone who understands what they're looking for, the purchase is a no-brainer.
