Black Book

Paul Verhoeven co-wrote and directed Black Book, a 2006 military drama thriller starring Carice van Houten, Sebastian Koch, Thom Hoffman, and Halina Reijn. The film had its global debut at the Venice Film Festival on September 1, 2006, and was released in the Netherlands on September 14, 2006. It is Verhoeven's first picture in the Netherlands since The Fourth Man, which he made in 1983 before moving to the United States.

With the release of "Black Book," director Paul Verhoeven ended a six-year filmmaking hiatus. It's a compelling voyage, as are all of Verhoeven's films. "Black Book," the narrative of a Dutch-Jewish lady who becomes a spy during World War II, received critical praise. Carice van Houten's fascinating performance, which balances human vulnerability with unbreakable resolve, is largely responsible for this.
