Journey's End
Journey's End is a 2017 British war film based on R. C. Sherriff's 1928 drama. It was featured in the "Special Presentations" section of the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival, written by Simon Reade and directed by Saul Dibb. The plot revolves around a young James (Jimmy) Raleigh, who joins the army under the command of his former schoolmate, Stanhope. Stanhope has been compelled to use the bottle due to the circumstances in the trenches, but Raleigh remains unfazed. The Germans are expected to strike the line in Northern France at any time, according to intelligence.
"Journey's End," based on a famous play of the same name, draws together an enthralling cast to tell its timeless narrative. We follow a squad of British soldiers who are forced to play an agonizing waiting game against German forces as they fight their way through World War I. As the strain grows, their multifaceted personalities emerge: these men are despondent, hopeful, gentlemanly, and completely lost. We're totally involved — and all the more ready to have our hearts torn — when the shelling eventually begins.
