Predator
Predator is a 1987 American science fiction action horror film authored by brothers Jim and John Thomas and directed by John McTiernan. It's the first movie in the Predator franchise. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as the captain of an elite paramilitary rescue squad on a mission to retrieve captives in the guerrilla-held territory in the Central American rainforest, who are stalked and hunted down by the deadly Predator (Kevin Peter Hall), a technologically superior extraterrestrial.
"Predator" may not be the first picture that comes to mind when you think of "war movies," but director John McTiernan's sci-fi/horror/jungle warfare mash-up bears many of the subgenre's characteristics. For starters, it features a guerilla conflict between an unseen adversary and a force of seasoned American mercenaries. For another, it's jam-packed with machismo from the 1980s and plenty of flaming firearms. As a result, it might very well satisfy your need for a war film.
