Breathe (2017)
Breathe is a 2017 biographical drama film written by William Nicholson and directed by Andy Serkis on his directorial debut. At the age of twenty-eight, Robin (Andrew Garfield) suffers polio and is confined to a hospital bed with just a few months to live. Robin and Diana dare to leave the hospital ward with the help of Diana's (Claire Foy) twin brothers (Tom Hollander) and inventor Teddy Hall's (Hugh Bonneville) groundbreaking ideas in order to live a full and passionate life together, raising their young son, planning to travel, and dedicating their lives to helping other polio patients.
On September 11, 2017, the film made its world premiere at the 42nd Toronto International Film Festival. Bleecker Street released it in the United States on October 13, 2017, while STXinternational released it in the United Kingdom on October 27, 2017. The film earned mixed reviews at its initial release. Serkis' direction and Garfield and Foy's performances were acclaimed by critics, although others thought the film was smoothed over with romance rather than focusing on Cavendish's condition and his family's existence.
