Tick, Tick...BOOM! (2021)
Tick, Tick... Boom! (also stylized as tick, tick... BOOM!) is a 2021 American biographical musical drama film directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda. It was written by Steven Levenson and is based on Jonathan Larson's stage musical of the same name, which is a semi-autobiographical drama of Larson's attempt to break into the business by composing a musical. Jon (Andrew Garfield) is a young theatrical composer who works as a waiter in a New York City café in 1990 while writing what he believes would be the next great American musical. Days before a crucial performance, Jon is under pressure from all sides. With the clock ticking away, Jon finds himself at a crossroads and must consider the question that everyone must face: What are we supposed to do with the time we have?
Tick, Tick... Boom! made its world premiere at the AFI Fest on November 10, 2021, followed by a limited theatrical release two days later and a Netflix release on November 19. Garfield's acting and Miranda's directing both earned positive reviews for the film. Garfield won multiple prizes for his performance, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
