Bridgerton, a period comedy-drama written by Chris Van Dusen and produced by Shonda Rhimes, is a Netflix Original hit series. The drama takes place in Regency-era London during the social season, when young women eligible for marriage are introduced to society. Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) is at the heart of Season 1 when she meets Simon Bassett, Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), a very attractive bachelor who has no plans to marry anytime soon. Daphne and Simon strike an agreement to seem to be pursuing each other in order for Simon to be relieved of the enormous pressure to marry, while Daphne makes the other suitors envious and intrigued. Bridgerton's first season was widely appreciated by critics, particularly for its ethnically diverse ensemble, and a second season is on the way.
