Peaky Blinders
Peaky Blinders is a British period crime drama television series created by Steven Knight. Set in Birmingham, England, it follows the exploits of the Peaky Blinders crime gang in the direct aftermath of the First World War. The fictional gang is loosely based on a real urban youth gang of the same name who were active in the city from the 1890s to the 1910s.
Peaky Blinders is arguably one of Netflix's greatest original shows, starring a cast of excellent performers such as Cillian Murphy, Paul Anderson, and the late Helen McCrory, who unfortunately died of cancer earlier this year. The drama is set in Birmingham, England just after World War I, and focuses on the criminal operations of the Shelbys, an Irish-Romani mafia family led by Murphy's Thomas Shelby, who have ambitious aspirations to increase their dominance. Of course, there are many others competing for control of England, but the Shelbys never give up.
Peaky Blinders has featured many fantastic actors in supporting roles over the course of the series' five seasons, with the sixth and final season coming soon, including Sam Neill as the corrupt Chief Inspector Chester Campbell, Tom Hardy as Alfie Solomons, the leader of a Jewish gang in Camden Town, and Adrien Brody as Italian-American gangster Luca Changretta. Many of the people and events in the series are based on real-life individuals and events from the time period, and the series has received critical praise.
