Brussels International Catholic School
Brussels International Catholic School (BICS) is the next school on the list of the best British in Brussels. Located in Brussels, Belgium, it is an independent pre-primary through secondary school. With classes taught in both French and English, the academic program caters to an international student body by providing bilingual education.
In the last year of the Pre-Primary section, students typically learn the fundamentals of reading and writing in French while continuing to study spoken English, ages five to six. The primary school uses a curriculum approved by Belgium in addition to the Cambridge Primary Programme (CPP).
Every day, the school offers a garderie service to assist working parents. Children are placed in supervised areas according to their age and encouraged to read, play creatively, or complete schoolwork under the guidance of an instructor.
The primary curriculum at Brussel International Catholic School is based on the Cambridge Primary for English-speaking students and the Belgian curriculum for students who speak French. After completing six years of primary school, students are eligible to sit for the Blgain's Cantonal exam.
Early literacy instruction involves repeatedly teaching French letters and syllables to young children, as well as the English Jolly Phonics program. These methods are continued into the early elementary school years. Reading, writing, speaking, and listening receive special attention.
A large portion of the mathematics curriculum is taught through hands-on activities, which help each child's conceptual understanding grow. A thorough curriculum covering addition and subtraction computations, geometry, measurements, data management, and problem-solving is advantageous for the Year 1 class.
Students study for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) exams in the second cycle (Years 10 and 11), which lead to a variety of Cambridge international qualifications covering a wide range of subjects.
Students study for the A Level exams in the final cycle, or Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13), which grants admission to colleges and universities across the globe. Grammar, language learning, written expression, science, history, geography, and mathematics are all prioritized in the first cycle (Years 8 and 9).
