Caddo Lake
Caddo Lake, which spans the Texas/Louisiana border, provides a unique water experience in Texas. Caddo Lake is a cypress swamp with about 20,000 acres of bayous, channels, and waterways.
Caddo Lake is one of the South's true natural marvels. The cypress trees that give the lake its trademark bayou look are estimated to be over 300 years old, making it Texas's only natural lake and the second largest in the entire south. Caddo Lake also has American alligators, which are rare to see. Caddo Lake State Park, on the west end of the lake, near the Cypress Bayou, is a popular recreation spot. The state park has hiking trails and campgrounds, but the main attraction is its closeness to the water. Caddo Lake boasts nearly 40 miles of picturesque paddling trails, as well as canoe rentals at the state park.
