Sam Rayburn Reservoir
Sam Rayburn Reservoir is a famous leisure lake administered by the Army Corps of Engineers in deep East Texas. This massive man-made reservoir, which spans over 110,000 acres, is surrounded by parks and public spaces. The lake has an average depth of 80 feet with a healthy largemouth bass population. These fish have made Sam Rayburn gain a reputation as one of Texas' top bass fishing lakes.
The largemouth bass is the most popular game fish in Sam Rayburn Reservoir, and there is a great year-round fishery. There are also excellent crappie and catfish fishing opportunities all year. The amount of white bass is limited, but they give excellent fishing opportunities in the spring. Bluegill and redear sunfish are abundant and give excellent fishing chances, especially for young or novice fishermen. On the lake, the US Army Corps of Engineers operates a dozen park amenities. Hiking trails, picnic areas, scenic overlooks, and boat ramps may all be found in most of these parks. The lake is surrounded by anything from basic campers to luxurious villas. On the Louisiana/Texas border, Toledo Bend Reservoir is another important body of water.
