Canyon Lake
Canyon Lake is one of the best day trips from San Antonio or Austin, and there's so much to do there. Canyon Lake is widely regarded as the crown jewel of Texas Hill Country. The massive lake's reservoir was formed in 1927 as a result of the construction of a dam. It is now a popular destination for those seeking a relaxing beach vacation. Canyon Lake is a reservoir created by the US Army Corps of Engineers on the Guadalupe River in Comal County by Canyon Dam, which is about sixteen miles northwest of New Braunfels. The US Army Corps of Engineers manages the dam, lake, and all adjacent property.
Canyon Lake offers a variety of watersports, including swimming, boating, scuba diving, and fishing. If you don't feel like spending the day in the sun, Canyon Lake has plenty of other activities for you to enjoy. Visit the Heritage Museum of the Texas Hill Country, hike through Canyon Lake Gorge, and sample wines at a local winery. It is one of the best day trips from San Antonio, and even from Austin.
