Dinosaur Valley State Park
Dinosaur Valley State Park take first place on the list of the best day trips from Texas. Palmetto Island State Park, located on the Vermilion River, provides a true south Louisiana outdoor experience. A boat launch gives canoers and kayakers access to the river for fishing and boating, while the interior lagoons give them a close-up look at the native plant and animal life. Overnight guests can stay in one of six vacation cabins, which can comfortably sleep up to eight people. The cabins, nestled among the trees and foliage, have a full kitchen and bathroom, fireplaces for those chilly winter evenings, and a screened-in porch where you can listen to the crickets and frogs sing out their evening melodies. For those who prefer to be closer to nature, 96 RV campsites are available (20 of which include an extra tent camping pad).
With a water playground and bathhouse, the visitor center complex will undoubtedly be a "must do" for day-use visitors. Meetings, family gatherings, weddings, and other events can all be held in a multi-purpose room. The palmetto plants, after which the park is named, are echoed in many of the architectural elements throughout the park; so bring a picnic and go on a scavenger hunt to find them all!
