Castroville

Castroville ranks 6th on the list of the best day trips from Texas. Castroville is another Texas small town with a European flair. Castroville is known as Texas' "Little Alsace" because of the Catholic Alsatian immigrants who first settled there. Alsace is a cultural region that formerly belonged to Eastern France, Germany, and Switzerland. So, imagine the town Belle comes from in Beauty and the Beast, and you'll get a good idea of what the Alsace region looked like, at least architecturally. It is without a doubt one of the best day trips from San Antonio.

Castroville retains traces of its Catholic Alsatian immigrants, most notably in its architecture. Many of the houses and structures were constructed in the traditional European style. It is very different from the way other buildings in the frontier region were constructed. The town is also designed to look like a European farming village. As a result, there is no modern grid system that is common in US cities. It's like stepping into another country, and it's part of one of their favorite Texas road trips that includes stops in small towns like Castroville.
