'Caught by a Wave' begins as a sweet love tale between Sara and Lorenzo, who meet at a sailing summer school in Sicily. Although Sara appears to have muscular paralysis during a sailing class, Lorenzo rushes to her aid and doesn't think much of it later.
As their passion deepens, the film offers a tragic surprise by exposing how Sara truly lives with fast progressing muscular dystrophy, which will gradually impair her motor capabilities before taking her life. As the students struggle to accept fate's brutal hand, the cheerful love tale quickly turns into one of sadness.
