Contagion
Contagion is a 2011 American medical thriller film directed by Steven Soderbergh. Along with Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Elliott Gould, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, Bryan Cranston, Jennifer Ehle, Sanaa Lathan, and Marion Cotillard, the film's ensemble cast also features Gwyneth Paltrow. The story revolves around the introduction of a vaccine to stop the spread of a virus that is spread by respiratory droplets and fomites, efforts by medical researchers and public health officials to identify and contain the disease, the breakdown of social order during a pandemic, and the loss of social order. The movie employs the multi-narrative "hyperlink cinema" method, made popular by numerous of Soderbergh's works, to follow several interconnected plot threads.
After working together on The Informant! (2009), director Steven Soderbergh and writer Scott Z. Burns considered a movie that would show the rapid spread of a virus. Burns sought advice from W. Ian Lipkin and Larry Brilliant, as well as members of the World Health Organization. Principal photography began in Hong Kong in September 2010 and continued until February 2011 in the following locations: Chicago, Atlanta, London, Dublin, Geneva, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
