Kimetsu no Yaiba "Demon Slayer" is a Japanese manga series written by Gotōge Koyoharu, serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from the February 2016 issue to May 2020 and subsequent chapters. compiled into 21 tankōbon volumes. The manga ranked 14th in the list of manga recommended by Japanese bookstore staff in 2017, and 19th in the list of the best manga of 2018 for male readers compiled by Kono Manga ga Sugoi. In 2019, Kimetsu no Yaiba ranked 10th in Da Vinci magazine's 19th "Book of the Year" list. The manga was also nominated for the 24th Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Awards of February 2020, as of December 2020, the series has sold more than 120 million copies. The story revolves around a smart, gentle boy named Tanjiro, whose home in the remote mountains works as a charcoal seller. During a late-night out, Tanjiro discovers that his whole family has been murdered by a demon, leaving only his sister Nezuko alive but turned into a demon. Unfortunately, right at that moment, the Water Pillar Tomioka Giyuu (demon hunter) appeared and intended to destroy Nezuko. Realizing that his sister, despite turning into a demon, still retains her human nature, Giyuu not only did not kill but also brought both brothers to meet his master - Water Pillar Urokodaki Sakonji. There, they train Tanjiro to become a demon hunter and find a way to turn Nezuko back into a human.
It is the best-selling manga of 2019, and the first to take all of the top 10 spots in Oricon's weekly manga chart. The manga occupied the entire top 10 for an entire month, and it was also the first series in Oricon's history to capture all of the 19 weekly rankings. In February 2020, volume 19 of the series sold approximately 1.378 million copies in its first week, making Kimetsu no Yaiba the third manga series with a single print run to sell over 1 million copies in its first week.
