EARTH University

EARTH University is a private, non-profit university that provides two academic programs: an undergraduate Licenciatura degree in agricultural sciences and a master's degree in agricultural sciences. Through a techno-scientific education emphasizing Social entrepreneurship, the university invests in students – primarily from Latin America, the Caribbean, and Africa – who are working to become leaders of positive socio-economic and environmental change for their home countries and the world at large.

EARTH University was founded in the 1980s as a result of a collaboration between a group of Costa Ricans, the US Agency for International Development, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and the Costa Rican government. On April 2, 1989, the cornerstone of the first campus building was set, and the first-class was inaugurated on March 26, 1990, after years of fundraising, site design, and curriculum preparation.

The teaching buildings, a library specializing in agricultural and environmental themes, labs, a rainforest reserve with main and secondary forests, and a farm dedicated to agricultural and livestock production are all part of the 52,981 m2 campus on a 33.76 km2 site near Guácimo. The family of Daniel Oduber Quirós, a former president of Costa Rica, gave the university's second campus, EARTH-La Flor, in 2005. EARTH-La Flor is a 3,700-acre property.
