East Beach

Galveston's East Beach, on the island's east end, is a popular and social beach about 48 miles from Houston. It is especially popular during the summer months when concerts and festivals are held on a regular basis.

Visitors to Houston who want to participate in beach activities such as volleyball tournaments and sandcastle contests should go to East Beach. You may hire Jet Skis or parasails over the blue water in addition to swimming and sunbathing. Beach chairs, umbrellas, and cabanas may be rented as well. East Beach offers a playground and a shaded pavilion for kids. The 80-acre R.A. Apffel Park near East Beach provides enough space, as well as restaurants, bathrooms, and showers. The park has many entrances, and there is a day-use fee. If you have time, visit the East End Lagoon Nature Preserve, which is close to the beach and offers hiking, bird watching, and kayaking.
