Empress Ki
Empress Ki is a highly idealized period drama based on true historical events. Seung Nyang, the main character, was born as a slave in Goryeo. She grew up pretending to be a man in order to avoid being compelled to travel to China to serve the emperor, and she became a powerful lady and one of the campaigners who protected girls from being transported away as tributes. She quickly falls in love with both the King of Goryeo and the future Emperor of China, a prince from Mongolia.
A domestic and overseas hit, the series received the Golden Bird Prize for Serial Drama at the 9th Seoul International Drama Awards. Ha Ji-won also won the Grand Prize at the MBC Drama Awards for her performance. Empress Ki became a worldwide sensation. After Jewel in the Palace, it was the second-highest rated Korean drama. This historical series will undoubtedly entice you to binge-watch it!
