The Moon that Embraces the Sun is a historical/fantasy drama set in the Joseon Dynasty that concentrates on the love tale of a mythical monarch and a shaman. They are separated by political intrigue and evil sorcery, but they will meet again; the moon must hug the sun.

The historical-fantasy drama is based on Jung Eun-novel gwol's of the same name. It depicts a touching love tale between a fictitious Joseon Dynasty monarch and a female shaman, as well as the tensions and conspiracies of competing for political powers. The series received a 42.2 percent rating at its peak. At the 48th Baeksang Arts Accolades, it won Best Drama and Best Actor in the television category, as well as many awards at the 2012 MBC Drama Awards, including Drama of the Year.
