Fisherman’s Soup (Halászlé)

Halászlé, also known as fisherman's soup, is a spicy paprika-based soup made with river fish or carp. It's arguably one of the hottest dishes native to Europe, thanks to the generous amount of paprika used.

The moniker "fisherman's soup" may not sound particularly appetizing, but when prepared properly, this soup may be incredibly tasty. It's a popular dish, similar to goulash. It's traditionally cooked in a kettle over an open fire, but if you're making it at home, you can use your stove instead.

This Fisherman’s Soup (Halászlé) could contain a variety of fish. Carp, perch, and catfish are some of the most common fish. This soup is traditionally high in paprika, which is why it is often bright red. In some versions of this soup, multiple types of fish are used instead of just one. This soup can also be served with pasta in other variations. To make it at home, follow this recipe.
