Folklorama
Folklorama is a two-week festival held in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in August. People from dozens of cultures who have made Winnipeg their home are encouraged to sample cuisine and celebrate their cultural and ethnic history at the event. The largest and longest-running multicultural festival in the world is Folklorama.
A pavilion is a designated location for each culture. Over 40 pavilions are typically shown across the city, with half of them working during week one and half during week two of the festival. Each pavilion features a show incorporating each culture's song and dance, as well as signature ethnic cuisine and a cultural display. Some pavilions provide additional services including henna tattoos, steel pan drum classes, and late-night parties. The majority of pavilions provide imported cultural beverages.
Folklorama gives cultural organizations visibility and attracts thousands of tourists each year, boosting the city's economy. It's the world's largest and longest-running festival of its sort (determined by the International Council of Organizations for Folklore Festivals and Folk Art, also known as CIOFF). Folklorama is organized by the Folk Arts Council of Winnipeg.
