For Hundred Rabbits
Dinner out in London may be stressful in this day and age of conveyor belt crisps and hype-fanning pop-ups. After all, you may spend hours in line and still go home hungry. Or pay for your entire dinner in advance, only to be served food that is meant to be "liked" rather than eaten. It's no surprise that everyone is staying home with a Deliveroo and watching Strictly.
However, every now and then, someone dares to forego gimmicks and culinary twattery. This is exactly what Four Hundred Rabbits has done, first in Crystal Palace and now in Nunhead, the mummifying Peckham/Dulwich overspill.
Prepare yourself: Four Hundred Rabbits is a pizza and beer establishment. Not pizza sliders served in miniature pizza boxes or beer cocktails with humorous names: just pizza and beer done really well. Because the former is sourdough, it is chewy rather than brittle. Chorizo and pickled chilies, for example, or courgette, feta, and pine nuts, are both classic and imaginative toppings.
Then there's the beer, which comes in a varied and intriguing range: a zippy 6.5 percent saison from Burning Sky, as well as Huddersfield's Magic Rock and Danish brewer To L. That's really all there is to it. The sides aren't really worth the effort, but the Gelupo ice cream excellent. The service is quick and courteous, and the pink-and-green color palette stands out from London's usual bare brickwork and lightbulbs aesthetic.
