Great Pretender

Due to his father, Makoto Edamura has had a particularly awful run of luck. Makoto was imprisoned for a lengthy period at a young age, so when he was freed, there were almost no opportunities available for an ex-con. Makoto had become a master manipulator as a result of being forced to deceive to survive... or so he believed until the tables were turned during a typical money-grabbing ploy.

Makoto meets a fellow swindler called Laurent Thierry, who intends to use the young man's abilities in a large operation. Can Makoto demonstrate that his abilities are genuine, or will he again find himself penniless?

Great Pretender is, without a doubt, the most undervalued anime in recent memory. We have practically no issues with Great Pretender, which has a wonderful soundtrack, stunning animation/art, and an ensemble cast that are equal parts endearing and absurd. The Great Pretender is a series that we continue to discuss because it exemplifies how wonderful anime can be.
