Grotta del Turco

Grotta del Turco is one of Gaeta's most intriguing locations in southern Lazio. The three fractures of the promontory create a magical ambiance that draws visitors in. To reach the cave, simply descend a few steps on the left side of the SS. Trinità di Gaeta shrine, where a tiny terrace overlooks the beautiful hues of the fissure in the rocks. The cave's entrance is free of charge.

A large rock became lodged in one of the mountain's crevices during an earthquake in 1434. A church was built on top of this one, and from here you can see the sea and the 150-meter-high cliff!

The term Grotta del Turco is derived from old folklore. According to folklore, one of the cave's walls bears the imprint of an old Turkish sailor man's hand. Isn't it fascinating?
