Grotta Su Marmuri

Grotta Su Marmuri is a unique natural gem located a few kilometers from the lovely village of Ulassai in Ogliastra. It is one of Sardinia's most attractive and visited destinations due to its interesting interiors. Its rank is among the most beautiful caves in Italy.

This 850-meter-long cave is one of Italy's most spectacular caves. Stalactites and stalagmites are beautiful natural sculptures. But the discoveries don't stop there: like any good cave, there are two remarkable fresh-water lakes here as well.

From April to October, the massive Grotta Su Marmuri (marble in Sardinian) is open to the public. It is also a site of significant scientific significance because it is home to Italy's largest group of bats. The cave's wildlife includes the Ovobathysciola gestroi, a subterranean beetle common in the heel area, a Sardinian geotriton species, a cave-adapted frog called Speleomanthes imperialis, and a big colony of bats.

For an overnight stay, the Hotel Domus de Janas maybe the best option. It is only a few kilometers from the beaches of Ogliastra, which have crystal-clear water. The Hotel Domus de Janas is an eco-friendly resort set in a still-wild environment.

Ulassai has become a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts in Sardinia. There are numerous itineraries from which to begin your journey. The area also has some of Sardinia's most spectacular climbs, making it a must-visit for everyone who appreciates nature.
