Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons (2016-)

Inside the World's Toughest Prisons is a Netflix documentary series created by Emporium Productions, a London-based production company. The film depicts life in 19 prisons throughout the world. It takes us on a tour of these unfriendly foreign jails, revealing the terrifying facts of these institutions.

Season 1 was presented by Irish journalist Paul Connolly and aired on Channel 5 in the United Kingdom (UK). Seasons 2, 3, 4, and 5 were commissioned by Netflix and hosted by UK journalist Raphael Rowe, who had previously spent 12 years in jail for a crime for which he was exonerated. The fifth season of the show premiered on January 9, 2021. Season 5 features three episodes instead of four, as opposed to the previous four seasons.
