When They See Us (2019)
When They See Us is a Netflix original criminal drama miniseries produced, co-written, and directed by Ava DuVernay that aired on May 31, 2019, in four parts. It is based on the 1989 Central Park jogger case. It follows the lives and families of the five Black and Latino male suspects who were wrongly accused and prosecuted on charges linked to the rape and abuse of a white lady in New York City's Central Park.
When They See Us received positive reviews, with an appreciation for its actors in particular. It garnered 11 nominations for the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards; Jerome won for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie, while it was nominated for Outstanding Limited Series, and Ellis, Nash, Black, Leguizamo, Williams, Blake, and Farmiga were all nominated for acting. The series was also named Best Limited Series by Critics' Choice Television.
