Jackson Lake

Jackson Lake is located in Wyoming's Grand Teton National Park in the northwest. This lake is one of the largest lakes in Wyoming. Its overall size is 25,540 acres (103.40 km2), and it offers a range of other leisure activities in addition to drawing a lot of tourists throughout the summer. The Jackson Lake Dam, initially erected in 1911, expanded in 1916, and renovated in 1989, increased the size of this natural lake. Farmers in Idaho use the top 10 meters of the lake as part of the Minidoka Project for irrigation purposes in accordance with water rights legislation passed before Grand Teton National Park was established. The lake is a relic of extensive glacial erosion from the Yellowstone Plateau to the north and the nearby Teton Range to the west.

The largest island in the lake, Elk Island, is one of more than 15 that dot its waters. Spend a night at the remote camping area on Elk Island for a distinctive camping experience. You can reserve this area at the visitor centers in Moose, Jenny Lake, or Colter Bay, but make a reservation well in advance because this is a well-liked camping location for both residents and tourists. There are more developed campgrounds at Signal Mountain, Colter Bay, and Lizard. Additionally, Jackson Lake's numerous bays and shores offer the ideal location for anyone looking to catch up on some summer reading or work on their tan.
