Jayapura

Jayapura is the capital and largest city in Indonesia's Papua province. It is located on New Guinea's northern coast and has an area of 940.0 km2. The city is bounded to the north by the Pacific Ocean and Yos Sudarso Bay, to the east by the sovereign state of Papua New Guinea, to the south by Keerom Regency, and to the west by Jayapura Regency. Jayapura, with a population of 398,478 according to the 2020 census, is the most populated city on the entire island of New Guinea, surpassing Port Moresby, the country's capital.

Jayapura, in East Papua, is the starting point for many people who desire to take the adventurous journey into Papua's interior. Travelers come here for a variety of reasons. This is where you can start your walk into the secluded Baliem Valley, undertake a sustainable crocodile conservation study for your thesis, or prepare to photograph Lake Sentani and its culture. A red-and-white communication tower on a beautiful hill provides the best view of the town. Jayapura is tiny in size, therefore you can simply go around on foot. If you want to see Sentani and the beaches on the outskirts of town, you should take public transportation.
