Kathy Griffin
Kathleen Mary Griffin is an actress and comedian from the United States who has appeared in television comedy specials and recorded comedy albums. Griffin's reality show Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List won Primetime Emmy Awards in 2007 and 2008. She has also appeared in films as a supporting character.
Griffin was born in the Chicago suburb of Oak Park. She relocated to Los Angeles in 1978, where she studied theater at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and joined the improvisational comedy troupe The Groundlings. Griffin began performing stand-up comedy in the 1990s and appeared as a guest star on television shows such as NBC's Suddenly Susan (1996–2000).
Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List (2005–2010), a Bravo reality show, was a rating success for the network and garnered her two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Reality Program. Griffin has six comedy albums to his credit, all of which have gotten Grammy nominations. For Your Consideration (2008) was her first album, and it made her the first female comic to debut at the top of Billboard's Top Comedy Albums chart. Kathy Griffin's book, Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin, was published in 2009. She won the Grammy for Best Comedy Album in 2014 after being nominated six years in a row.
Griffin has a number of HBO and Bravo standup comedy specials under his belt. She has recorded sixteen television specials for the latter network, breaking the Guinness World Record for the most televised television specials on any network. She was also the first comic to have four specials on television in the same year in 2011.
