Margaret Cho
Margaret Moran Cho is an actress, musician, and stand-up comedian from the United States. Her stand-up performances, in which she criticizes social and political issues, particularly those involving race and sexuality, have made her famous. She rocketed to fame after starring in the ABC sitcom All-American Girl (1994–95), and went on to become a well-known stand-up comedian in the years that followed.
Margaret Cho began making jokes at the age of 14 with her father, who made a livelihood producing joke books in Korea. Writing served as an escape for her from the bullying she experienced at school. All of her hard work paid off when she began performing professionally only two years later, at the age of sixteen. She won a contest to open for Jerry Seinfeld a few years later, which led to a prime-time special and instant success.
Cho's preferred themes to discuss on stage are political issues, social critiques, sexuality, and racism. She has also written two books, 'I'm the One That I Want' and 'I Have Decided to Stay and Fight.' She toured the country in 1999 with her off-Broadway one-woman show, "I'm The One That I Want," which was eventually turned into a book.
