Lagoa Azul
Lagoa Azul (Portuguese for "blue lagoon") is a small bay north of São Tomé Island in São Tomé and Príncipe. It is part of the Parque Natural Obô de São Tomé. It is 4 km northwest of the town of Guadalupe. It's a popular spot for diving. There is a lighthouse built on a cliff near São Tomé and Príncipe Bay, built in 1997. Walk up to the lighthouse for this beautiful coastal view!
This attractive cove with aquamarine waters is perhaps too popular, as it is developing a garbage problem. Just after the Km17 marker, turn towards the sea at the 'Lagoa Azul' sign. The beaches are covered with round lenticular basalt rocks that often contain small crystals or radial calcite aggregates, bringing a unique and novel feeling to the visitors. This is a very worthwhile experience for visitors to try when coming to São Tomé and Príncipe
