Lake Bohinj

Lake Bohinj, covering an area of 318 hectares (790 acres), is located in the Bohinj Valley of the Julian Alps, in the Northwest Upper Carniola region, and is part of the Triglav National Park. It is not only one of the most beautiful lakes but also the largest permanent lake in Slovenia.

The Julian Alps surround the lake, and the crystal clear water reflects the giant mountains like a mirror, creating a magnificent scene. With stone bridges, onion-domed churches, and wooden beamed houses, these villages are also fascinating. They seem to have stepped out of a fairy tale.

There are many swimming spots around the lake, so if you find the shore crowded, you should just walk down the road a little. If you want to walk to the end of the lake, it takes 4 hours, the distance is about 12 km. You won't have to look far here if you're looking for adventure. On the nearby Sava-Bohinjka River, you can go kayaking, rafting, and even canyoning. If you are a beginner, you can rent SUP boards on the lake or sign up for a SUP course.

There are still plenty of options available to you if you want to stay dry, including tandem paragliding on lake Bohinj, hiking on Mount Vogel, guided biking, and rock climbing. Good news for travelers who don't drive to Slovenia: additional buses leave Ljubljana for Bled and Bohinj during the summer.
