Lake Markakol

In East Kazakhstan, Lake Markakol is a well-liked tourist site. Small rivers and streams feed the lake. Gulfs split up its shores. In the Katonkaragay District in East Kazakhstan, it is the largest lake. Its principal outlet is the Kalzhyr, an Irtysh tributary. In this region, there have been records of about 700 species of higher plants.

Lake Markakol has a lovely setting that will enchant you right away. The ellipse-shaped lake is bordered by the Kurchum and Azutau mountain ranges, which span a distance of almost 40 kilometers and are located 1,447 meters above sea level. When the sun is shining, the lake seems dazzling blue; when the sky is clouded, it appears gray-black or silvery. The establishment of a natural reserve along the lake's perimeter was declared by the administration of the former Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic in 1976.

Today, people travel to Lake Markakol to take in the pristine surroundings and witness one of the most stunning high-mountain lakes in all of Central Asia. Lake Markakol is one of the most beautiful lakes in Kazakhstan.
