Long Island

Long Island is located in The Bahamas' southern region. The island's 80-mile length has contrasting features, with tranquil sandy beaches on the west and rugged headlands in the east. Long Island, southeast of Nassau, is home to one of the world's deepest blue holes. Dean's Blue Hole is one of the world's deepest marine caverns, reaching a depth of nearly 660 feet. This natural gem can be seen in a bay about 4.4 miles west of Clarence Town, Long Island's capital.

If you want, you can visit a different beach on Long Island every day of the week, or spend your day fishing, sailing, or simply exploring this pristine island, which is the largest of the islands in the southern portion of the Bahamas. Dean's Blue Hole, one of the world's deepest blue holes, is located just offshore from Long Island, and visitors are welcome to go snorkeling or scuba diving there. Other parts of the island provide opportunities to dive with sharks, which will appeal to the most adventurous people. Eco-tours are very popular on this island, and you will have no difficulty finding one. Long Island's main attractions are the Lucayan Indian Cave, Dean's Blue Hole, and Max's Conch Bar.The greatest time to visit the Bahamas is between mid-December and mid-April, when the country is at its busiest. Though the weather is pleasant all year (temperatures rarely fall below 60 degrees), the islands are located within the hurricane zone, thus hurricanes may be an issue between June 1 and November 30.
