San Salvador

San Salvador is a mountainous island with an intriguing legend. It is said to have been the first land discovered and explored by Christopher Columbus during his first journey in 1492. Long Bay has a large white cross that marks the exact spot where Columbus made landfall.

Despite being one of the smallest populated islands in The Bahamas, there are plenty of activities and cultural wonders to discover during your stay. The island has extensive shallow-water coral reefs where snorkelers can see hundreds of fish species without using scuba equipment. Tourists who are diving lovers can visit up to 50 dive sites in San Salvador, some of which promise sightings of stingrays and sharks, as well as opportunities to see many tropical fish, various types of coral, and more.

The following are the main attractions in San Salvador: French Bay, Devil's Claw, Vicky's Reef, The Great Lake Preserve, and Cockburn Town. The greatest season to visit the region of San Salvador in the Bahamas is from January to December when temperatures are pleasant or warm and rainfall is restricted to middling.
