Matsu Island
Farther north of Kinmen and off the coast of Fuzhou is Matsu, a small archipelago made up of 18 islands. Matsu is one of the least frequented islands, making it an excellent choice for a relaxing vacation away from the crowds. Like Kinmen, the archipelago also has military outposts, and visitors to the island need not travel far to encounter a civilian in uniform. The largest islands of Beigan and Nangan are prime examples of Hokkien architecture, with locals often viewing those across the strait as relatives, rather than those in distant Taiwan. sticky rice. Notable attractions are the dozens of secret military tunnels that were once used to repel attacks from the Chinese military that have been opened to tourists and now serve as an archive for locals to produce rice wine.
Visitors can ride boats between six of the islands, and it doesn't matter which one they pick since they're all beautiful. The panorama on the islands is gorgeous, especially from the numerous cliffs that border the islands' beaches. While it isn't exactly a tourist attraction, there are plenty of temples, lighthouses, and historic military defenses to see.
